A magnitude 5.6 earthquake struck West Java's Cianjur district, resulting in approximately 7,500 injuries and potentially leaving around 62,000 people without homes. OctaFX, the international broker, responded to this crisis and partnered with the IDEP Foundation to aid the earthquake victims in West Java, Indonesia.
The earthquake, which occurred on November 21, 2022, caused extensive damage, affecting 58,049 houses, numerous public facilities, and communication networks. In response, the government declared a one-month state of emergency, effective until December 20, 2022.
With support from OctaFX and various other donors, the IDEP Foundation initiated an emergency relief project. They provided medical assistance and essential supplies to residents of Cugenang Village and neighboring areas, particularly those staying in evacuation centers.
The project included delivering food packages and household cleaning supplies to 212 families and offering medical assistance to 1,294 people. Furthermore, professional psychologists provided psychological first aid, mental health support, and individual counseling to 1,099 individuals.
IDEP also extended support to twenty emergency shelters and a Satellite Emergency Response Unit, in addition to establishing four public kitchens to assist those residing in evacuation centers.
While recovery from this disaster remains an ongoing challenge, OctaFX and the IDEP Foundation's joint efforts have laid the foundation for the Cianjur District's successful rehabilitation.
OctaFX expressed deep concern about the earthquake's impact on Cianjur in November 2022. They collaborated with local partners to provide emergency assistance to 100 families in early December.
"We realize that the people in Cianjur need long-term support to overcome the impact of the disaster. Thanks to IDEP, we managed to extend the period and widen the range of our efforts," commented the press office of OctaFX.
