I downloaded and installed MT4 from www[dot]metatrader4[dot]com but it directs me to use MT FBS, what's the difference?

There is no significant difference between the Metatrader application downloaded directly from MetaQuotes and the MetaTrader application that has been branded by a broker (in this case, FBS Trader). The only difference is that the broker-branded application can only be used to log in to the trading server of that broker.
Indeed, every broker always recommends using the branded MetaTrader application or using other applications released by the broker officially. This is intended to simplify and speed up the login process.
